Dreams + TeamsDeveloped by the British CouncilDreams + Teams began in 2001 and now operates in a wide range of countries around the world. Last year it involved 5,000 Young Leaders who engaged a further 150,000 young people and 3,000 teachers in 424 schools. Managed and developed by the British Council and the Youth Sport Trust with local in-country partners, it uses sport to develop international Young Leaders and establishes partnerships between schools around the world. In October 2007, representatives from Ngor, Senegal travelled to the UK, where they met their exchange school, Bishop Church of England from Sunbury Upon Thames. Excellent progress was made and in April 2008, Bishop Church of England visited IFA Ngor to exchange views on education, culture and social issues. Founder Jules Katz says "We are delighted to have secured a partnership with the British Council, via Dreams and Teams. It is an honour to be involved with such a well known and respected organisation. I am particularly excited with the exchange links and the benefits they offer for all involved." Dreams + Teams Training The British Council run training courses for overseas Local Tutors , who then train young people to act as Young Leaders and organise sports festivals and events in their community. Local partner organisations in each country select tutors. UK trainers then run a course for these tutors in delivering training to Young Leaders. Young Leaders in each country plan, organise and deliver sports festivals for hundreds of local young people. By running these events the Young Leaders are challenged to: demonstrate leadership be active citizens in their community value and promote cross-cultural understanding. Young Leaders around the world exchange experiences and tips on how to organise a festival. Dreams + Teams School Partnerships The Dreams + Teams school links provide a platform to explore together, through sport, issues such as equity, cultural diversity, inclusion, religion, ethics, global citizenship and communication. Dreams + Teams encourages the Young Leaders to work with their international counterparts via e-mail, video conferencing and face-to-face contact, bringing an international and cross-cultural understanding to everything they do - thinking globally while acting locally. |
